The 26-year-old girlfriend, Zhang told Chinese media she thought it was a joke. She said she was in a different province getting plastic surgery done and had her phone off when Cirk came to visit.
She told Hunan TV:
“We had advanced our romantic relationship but later he seemed a little callous towards me. “One day he sent me a photo of air tickets and I thought he was a joking. He didn't contact me later.”
Mr Cirk reportedly flew back to the Netherlands shortly after being treated in hospital.
Despite the failed first meeting Ms Zhang is said to be willing to meet Cirk after his recovery and continue their relationship.
