Alleged chairlady of prostitutes in Calabar dragged to court

The ‘chairlady’ of prostitutes in Calabar, Abigail Nweke, has been dragged to court for allegedly taking teenage girls from Benue state and turning them to commercial sex workers in Calabar.Abigail, the accused Vanguard reports that Miss Nweke was charged to Magistrate’s Court 1, for illegally abducting six teenage girls from Vandeikiya and Ekun local government areas of Benue state. She took the girls to Vegas Flex, a brothel in Bedwell street, Calabar.

She was said to have deceitfully took the girls from their homes without the consent of their parents and “forced them into prostitution, which is a criminal offence and punishable with five years imprisonment if found guilty.” Abigail, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, said she was arrested based on the report of some people who are envious of her progress. She said: “I sell roasted plantain and fish in front of Vegas Flex and not into prostitution as claimed by those who reported me.”She said only one of the girls, Charity, was brought by her to assist her sell the fish and plantain, while the rest came on their own to function as commercial sex workers in the brothel.
